Rhynchostylis retusa is an epiphytic orchid—meaning it typically grows on tree branches or trunks without absorbing nutrients from the tree. It is often called the Foxtail Orchid. Appearance: Leaves are thick, leathery, long, and droop on both sides. Roots are thick, silvery-green, and absorb moisture from the air. The most striking feature is the flower spike—long, hanging clusters that resemble a fox's tail, hence the name "Foxtail." Flowers: Small but bloom in large numbers. Usually white with light pink or purple spots. May have a mild, sweet fragrance. Flower spikes can grow up to 15–40 cm long, or even larger under good conditions.
