Some people become consumed by the pursuit of a misguided ideal of beauty. While butterflies are admired for their delicate charm, the standards we use to appreciate them cannot be applied to human beings. In the quest to conform to external ideals, people sometimes alter themselves to the point of losing their own identity. They reshape their appearance so drastically that, in the end, they no longer reflect the essence of what it means to be human. This transformation is less a change than a distortion, driven by an elusive and often damaging pursuit of aesthetic perfection.
