Basic Steps of the Sand Density Cone Test are as follows Calibrate the apparatus using the calibrating container to ensure accurate results
Dig a hole in the ground at the test location
Place the base plate at the bottom of the hole
Place the sand density cone on top of the hole and fill it with sand
Allow the sand to flow into the hole while keeping track of the volume of sand used
Measure the mass of the remaining sand in the cone after the test
Calculate the in-place density of the soil using the volume of the hole and the mass of the sand
