Horticulture Specialist
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement a comprehensive crop cultivation plan for fruits and vegetables (local and foreign varieties) suited to the Bangladeshi climate and soil conditions.
Design month-to-month or season-to-season planting schedules to optimize yield and crop diversity.
Ensure the production of high-quality crops by employing sustainable farming practices and maintaining rigorous quality control standards throughout the planting and harvesting processes.
Implement pest control measures that minimize pesticide usage while maintaining effective crop protection, prioritizing eco-friendly and integrated pest management techniques.
Regularly monitor soil health and recommend appropriate fertilizers or amendments to maintain fertility and productivity.
Oversee day-to-day farm activities, ensuring effective management of planting, irrigation, pest control, and harvesting operations.
Manage and coordinate a team of laborers, providing guidance and ensuring tasks are completed efficiently.
Identify potential risks or challenges in crop growth and develop solutions to maximize yield without compromising quality or sustainability.
Maintain detailed records of farming activities, including planting schedules, pesticide and fertilizer applications, crop rotations, and production data.
Stay updated on the latest advancements in horticulture, including techniques that improve yield, reduce waste, and enhance sustainability.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, or a related field (practical experience may substitute for formal education in exceptional cases).
Proven experience in crop cultivation, preferably with both local and exotic fruits and vegetables.
Strong knowledge of soil types, plant nutrition, pest management, and eco-friendly farming practices.
Demonstrated ability to create planting schedules and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
Leadership skills to manage laborers and ensure smooth farm operations.
Familiarity with irrigation systems and water management practices.
Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability to handle challenges in farming.
Excellent communication and record-keeping skills.
