🔐 What TCG Opal 2 Means
TCG Opal 2 is a standard from the Trusted Computing Group (TCG) for self-encrypting drives (SEDs) — the hardware encrypts data on the SSD.
This lets you use hardware-level full-disk encryption without OS/software encryption (e.g., works with BitLocker eDrive).
Opal isn’t automatic; you must set it up in system firmware/BIOS or with management tools.
